Leeds messed up with "impressive" star who's now worth more than Gruev
Leeds United could have signed Dinamo Zagreb midfielder Lovro Majer for just £4.5m in 2020, according to reports.
The Croatian international has since gone on to establish himself as one of the most exciting young midfielders in Europe, and is now valued at around £25m.
Leeds were reportedly interested in signing Majer in 2020, but ultimately decided against a move. The Whites were said to be put off by the player's £4.5m price tag, and instead opted to sign Rodrigo Moreno from Valencia for a fee of £27m.
Majer has since gone on to become a key player for Dinamo Zagreb, and has also broken into the Croatian national team. The 24-year-old has impressed with his creativity, passing range and goalscoring ability, and is now considered one of the best midfielders in the Croatian league.
Leeds' decision not to sign Majer in 2020 could come back to haunt them, as the player is now worth significantly more than the £4.5m fee that they were reportedly offered him for. The Whites are in need of a creative midfielder, and Majer would have been an ideal addition to their squad.
It remains to be seen whether Leeds will make a move for Majer in the future, but the Croatian international is now a much more expensive proposition than he was in 2020.
