New Canaan High School Student Employee Charged with Larceny

Francis T. Maloney High School senior arrested by New Canaan police

New Canaan, CT - A 17-year-old New Canaan High School senior was arrested over the weekend on larceny charges after a months-long investigation involving multiple victims, according to police

The male student, a school employee, was charged with six counts of sixth-degree larceny after an investigation by the New Canaan Police Department’s Youth Bureau. Police said they began an investigation in February after receiving a report of missing money from an employee at the high school. Through the course of the investigation, police identified the student as a suspect.

The student was arrested on Friday, May 12, and charged with six counts of sixth-degree larceny. He was released on a promise to appear in court on June 6.

New Canaan Public Schools Superintendent Bryan Luizzi said the district is cooperating with the police investigation. He said the student has been suspended from his job at the high school.

"The New Canaan Public Schools takes all allegations of theft and misuse of funds very seriously," Luizzi said in a statement. "We are cooperating with the New Canaan Police Department in their investigation and will take appropriate action based on the outcome of their investigation."

The New Canaan Police Department said the investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact the Youth Bureau at 203-594-3544.
