Arsenal miss out on Womens Champions League final
Gunners lose 3-2 to Wolfsburg with extra-time goal
Arsenal were knocked out of the Womens Champions League semi-finals with a crushing extra-time defeat by two-time winners Wolfsburg at a sold-out Emirates Stadium.
The Gunners had to overturn a 2-2 first-leg deficit against the German giants, but fell behind in north London when Jill Roord fired Wolfsburg ahead on the night in the 54th minute.
Frida Maanum equalised with a stunning strike from outside the area just three minutes later, but Tabea Wassmus restored Wolfsburg's lead with a close-range finish in the 73rd minute.
Kim Little levelled the scores again with a smashing free-kick in the 85th minute, but Wolfsburg stole the victory when Alexandra Popp headed in Jill Roord's free-kick in the 10th minute of extra-time.
Despite a spirited display from the Gunners, they could not find a way back into the match and Wolfsburg held on to reach their sixth Champions League final.
