Early Life and Career
Jose Altuve (born May 6, 1990) is a Venezuelan professional baseball second baseman for the Houston Astros of Major League Baseball (MLB). He made his MLB debut in 2011 and quickly established himself as one of the best second basemen in the league.
As a teenager, Altuve attended Segunda Etapa in Maracay, Venezuela where he played baseball and was signed by the Astros as an international free agent in 2007.
MLB Career
Altuve has been a key player for the Astros, helping them win the World Series in 2017. He has been named to six All-Star teams, won five Silver Slugger Awards, and three Gold Glove Awards.
In 2017, Altuve won the American League Most Valuable Player Award after leading the league in batting average, on-base percentage, and stolen bases.
